Procedure
  • The skin cancer is completely excised and the resulting defect is reconstructed with a skin graft or skin flap, depending on the size and location of the resulting defect
Recovery
  • Swelling and bruising affecting the surgical site peak at 2 days after surgery and rapidly resolve over the next 2 weeks
  • Incisions are healed by 2 weeks
  • Return to work the following day, but no strenuous activity or contact sports for 2 weeks
  • Subtle swelling may persist for up to 6 months
Result
  • Eradication of skin cancer
Risks
  • Infection, hematoma, scarring
  • Residual asymmetry or deformity
  • Recurrence or spread of cancer
