Procedure
- Titanium, bone substitutes or the patient’s own bone are shaped and fitted precisely to the defect to restore normal skull shape
- Computer assisted design is used to develop and manufacture custom polymer implants for extensive or complex cranial defects
Recovery
- Patients recover in hospital for 3 - 4 days
- Incisions are healed within 2 weeks
- Return to school or work after 2 weeks, but no strenuous activity or contact sports for 8 weeks
Result
- Provides a permanent correction

- Infection, hematoma, wound healing problems
- Implant failure
